A good source of information.....

I acquired this book at a swap meet many about 13 years ago.Back then i was the kind of person who thought a knife was a thing you kept in your pocket for peeling fruit etc.After reading the book I was bitten by the knife collecting bug!!I now have several hundred knives and I have always relied on this book as a concise yet informative history of 20 Century combat knives.I feel this book should be on the bookshelf of anyone who has an interest in or collects military knives. Highly Recommended!

Very Happy

Very happy with the contact and general condition of the book. Only wee complaint was the pages had yellowed on the edges (about an inch right round each page). I guess it was in a sunny bookshelf. Perhaps this could have been mentioned. The general condition of the front and back covers was good - only minor creases which I would expect for any second hand book.
Over all, happy with the trade and pleased to have a copy of this very good reference book. Nice to be updated with progress as to when consigned etc. Would certainly use Amazon again.

Jem took the apple core from his daughter and passed her one of the remaining crackers with a piece of cheese on it. Mae munched that down and looked to him immediately for another, the last one.

He gave it to her, then showed her his empty hands.

She frowned. "More?"

"No more," Jem said, and showed her his empty hands again, making a bigger gesture out of it, as if the little girl was accusing him of hiding some.

If Annie weren't so intent on eating her share of cheese and crackers she might have smiled at the sight of them, one of the most dangerous men she'd ever seen sitting side by side with that tiny little girl. They made quite a mismatched pair.

Mae looked over at Annie, at the last cracker in her hand and the last bit of cheese.

Annie gulped down the mouthful she was chewing. She looked down at the last of her meal and back at the little girl. To her shame, she didn't want to give up her last cracker. She could barely remember the last meal she'd eaten.

"That's Annie's food," Jem admonished the little girl. "You've had yours."

Mae bit her lip. She glanced down at her lap, then back at Annie again.

I can share, Annie attempted to tell Mae with her eyes alone. She snapped her cracker in half--simply unable to bear parting with the whole thing--and passed it across to the little girl. Mae took it and popped the whole thing in her mouth, making Annie smile.

"Mae!" her father said.

She looked at him wide-eyed, her mouth full of cracker. "Whaf dafdda?" she said, muffled, spraying a few cracker crumbs onto his trousers.

He closed his eyes briefly and brushed them off. "You didn't have to give her any," he said to Annie, "but thanks."

Annie grunted, her way of saying she didn't mind that much. She looked down quickly and finished her last bit of food. The crackers had been crispy and the cheese silky and smooth. They'd tasted like heaven.

"You must be thirsty," he said. "Do you mind sharing?"

She shook her head and automatically lifted two fingers.

"Two's no?" he asked.

She nodded, pleased, and lifted one finger. She'd grown up sending signals through the floor of the Ruskins' house, one stomp for yes, two for no. It came natural as rain now.

"And one's yes," he said, catching on quick.

Annie drank deep when he passed her the flask of water, amazed he'd let her drink from it. She tried her best to pour it down her throat without touching her lips to the flask, so he wouldn't regret giving it to someone so dirty. She wished she could tell him thanks, but after Mae had her fill and he took his own swallow, he was back under his hat, likely going over the events of the day.

How he'd stuck himself with her.

How he probably regretted even stepping off the train at the last stop.

She couldn't say she blamed him.

She hadn't much wanted to marry a stranger herself.

Jem Wheeler’s wife has recently passed away. He and their daughter Mae are on their way to his wife’s former home. Jem isn’t sure why he is going there, but he feels the urge to take Mae to her mother’s home. On the way the train they are on comes to a stop and Jem decides to check on his horse and get he and Mae some food. What he encounters changes he and Mae’s life forever.

Annie hasn’t bathed in days, but there is a reason for this. She must keep the man she is travelling with away from her at all costs. Annie can’t speak to defend herself so she must rely on other resources to help keep herself from being abused. Annie’s mother abandoned her when she was 3 leaving Annie an orphan. The family that Annie was with could no longer care for her so now she is travelling with a disreputable pastor who is set on selling her to an equally disreputable man. This is where Jem and Annie’s paths cross. Seeing the transaction taking place and Annie’s distress over the treatment of a young puppy Jem steps in and offers to marry Annie and take the puppy with them. Needless to say he makes an enemy of the man who wanted to purchase Annie.

Annie is amazed that Jem would marry her and take her with him saving her from the man with the evil eyes. Mae understands it isn’t to be a “real” marriage, but she is quite willing to be a caretaker for Mae and help Jem in any way she can. Jem has closed himself off from caring about anyone since his wife has died. When they reach the ranch he throws himself into the work that is needed. When he realizes how pretty Annie is once she cleans up he pushes her away feeling disloyal to his first wife.

Of course the man with the evil eyes is a neighbor of their ranch and it is inevitable that they will see him. Jem vows though that he will let nothing happen to Annie or Mae. From the moment Annie arrives on the ranch she starts to realize what a special man Jem is. By her quiet loyalty Annie manages to win over Jem’s young brother-in-law Ben and Ray who does all of the cooking for the ranch. What Annie wants most though is to win Jem’s heart as he has won hers.

This was such a sweet story. I loved how Jem swooped in to Annie’s rescue. Even though Jem was closed off because of the death of his wife he still was able to rescue Annie from her situation and give her a new life. I loved the way the author portrayed how patient Jem was with Annie not being able to communicate. I enjoyed the softening and awareness that Jem started having for Annie even though he felt he was being disloyal to his first marriage. The suspense was sort of secondary to the story of Annie and Jem, but it definitely kept me up too late wanting to find out how the whole story ended. This is the 3rd book in The Brides Series with The Unexpected Bride being the first book and Sleigh Bells and Mistletoe, a short story, being the 2nd. I recommend all three books. They probably don’t have to be read in order, but Jem is in the first 2 books so to get a feel for his background I would recommend reading them in order. I hope that author Lena Goldfinch will be writing another book in the series as I would really like to know what happened with one of the characters in this installment.

Lovely Historical Romance

After his wife's death, Jem takes his little daughter on the train to her uncle's home. On the way, they meet a young woman in a desperate situation--she is about to be sold off in marriage to the highest bidder. Without forethought, Jem steps in to help the woman, Annie, and marries her on the spot. Love could grow between the two of them, but there are a few complications to surmount before their marriage can really move forward, namely, Annie's muteness, Jem's grief over his wife's death, and revenge from the man who had previously intended to marry Annie.

The Bartered Bride was lovely. I was reminded why I put others of Lena Goldfinch's books on my favorites list. Her writing was good, her plot complicated and enjoyable, and her characters deep and like-able.

Annie's disability was very interesting. Born unable to form spoken or written words, she learned to communicate with hand gestures and facial expressions, with training in sign language. It was fascinating to learn about her disability and to imagine how hard it would be to play guessing games with people all the time. Can you imagine not being able to say "I love you" to your family or ask a simple question? Part of the book was spent trying to overcome the communication problems.

Throughout the novel, readers are reminded of Jem's grief over his deceased wife. It would be extremely difficult to lose a spouse, and that was obvious. But I wondered what Annie went through. Her life was certainly not pleasant and she had baggage from her previous bad experiences. I appreciated that Jem found out about those problems and took the time to help her overcome them.

Overall, this was a fascinating look into history, speech disabilities, and human depth. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet historical romance.

The Bartered Bride is another lovely country historical romance from Lena Goldfinch! Book three in THE BRIDES SERIES, it satisfies in a sweet way just as the books before it.

Jem Wheeler is a widower, struggling to care for his small daughter and grieving his late wife.
Annie is a mute young woman, put in a terrible position not of her own doing. She's to be bartered off to the highest bidder; will her new husband be kind to her? Will love ever blossom between them in such a confusing arrangement?

This was a sweet story! It was very interesting to have a mute heroine ... and see how that plays out in a spur-of-the-moment marriage. How a relationship would deepen even with no conversation to be had between the man and woman. I found the romance of The Bartered Bride to be quite touching. Some moments were so beautiful! So yes, more of a deep love story. It does have some adult situations, so I would recommend to eighteen and up.

And there's not only romance, but danger, drama, excitement, horrific crimes, and lessons learned. I found myself sighing dreamily one moment, then breathless with fear the next. Fans of historical fiction of sweet romance and faith will surely enjoy THE BRIDES SERIES by Lena Goldfinch!

Overall, a beautiful story. Looking forward to more!

About the Author
Wanda Bolton-Davis, is a multi-gifted speaker, teacher, author, soloist and church consultant. She is founder and Executive Director of Victorious Disciples Ministries, Inc., a discipleship training, leadership development and mentoring ministry. She has earned degrees from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas at Arlington, Truett Theological Seminary and is currently a doctoral candidate at Talbot School of Theology. She and her family reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH!!!

This book is great for women that are SERIOUS about their desire to grow spiritually. It's not a "bible study" book per se. But the idea is for you to take the biblical principals provided in this book, and apply them to your daily living. It is encouraged that you do go over each lesson once a month for 12 months or once a week for 12 weeks. The objective is to bring you to a point where you can walk in VICTORY no matter what situations may arise. AND we are commissioned to be disciples and disciple leaders. So, once you go through the lessons, it would be great if you could take what has been poured into you, and pour into someone else's life. IF EVERYONE DISCIPLES ONE, THEN EVERYONE WILL BE DISCIPLED!!!

This book is fantastic for discipleship!

I ordered this book for one-on-one discipleship and the lessons it contains and the format is great. You can do a lesson all in one sitting or break it up just as easily, and i love the way you do the work by subject rather than all at once. This book has just the right depth to reach a wide range of spiritual maturities.

Another great book from a great author

After the surprise from Book 1, I was looking forward to seeing how Book 2 would unfold. I was not disappointed. This book dives more into details from book 1. I do not recommend reading this book without reading the first book.

All the characters that we have grown to love still play a role in this book. We are introduced to a new character Frankie's teacher. Frankie is also given a more prominent role in this book. I enjoyed reading about Frankie and her quest to understand and share the truth about what happened in Edenville when her grandma was a child.

Danielle Stewart has done it again. She creates a wonderful story that you fell apart of. As you read you take sides on the issues. You find yourself agreeing with some of the characters and disliking others.

There is also an epilogue about Frankie and makes me want to know what Frankie's story will be. I hope I do not have to wait too long for the next book :)

I liked this book. Thanks goodness it wasn't a "continuation of the first one; no, this was Simpson's story that includes Betty where the first was the opposite.

It is however a continuation of the telling of a story of racial hate, hurt & longstanding human ugliness. When will it end? When humans understand skin color is no different than differences in hair color. It is what it is. We're ALL still humans.

Well written & an enjoyable read.

When I read the first book, Flowers in the Snow, I thought book 2 could be nowhere near as good. Well, I was so wrong. Kiss in the Wind is fabulous. It is one of those "can't put down" books. Danielle Stewart please hurry and write book 3. Love this series!!

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

Back in March of this year I lost 22 lbs. in 4 weeks from only cooking out of the wheat belly cookbook. I still have about 12 lbs to go, but don't have the time to make the recipes. It feels like I've been waiting forever for this 30-minute or less cookbook to come out. Finally it arrived Christmas Eve and then I fell in love. The only time consuming thing about this cookbook for a beginner is going to be getting familiar with the ingredients and where to locate them. So far today I made the Beef stroganoff, crab stuffed mushrooms and the spicy chicken. All were excellent and only took 15 to 30 minutes which is life changing compared to the other recipe book :)

This book has no only changed my life but also the life of my entire family. We have three generations eating the Wheat Belly way. I am off my heart medication and my cholesterol medication thanks to this way of eating. My depression is gone. Anxiety gone. Intestinal issues, gone. This is truly life changing!

Will knock your socks off as your clothes fall off!

Let me start by saying I didn't have high expectations of the Wheat Belly book or the cookbook, but I was very, very wrong. To give you some understanding, I have severe acid reflux and a hiatal hernia to boot. Before reading the book, I had been on more than double the max dose of a prescription medication as well as the max dose of OTC Zantac every single day. Even with this array of pills I vomitted blood and got sick most meals. I felt poorly everyday for the last 3+ years. I couldn't even brush my teeth in the morning without gagging or throwing up! In addition to that, I was shedding an abnormally large amount of hair, breaking out in rashes, have an array of symptoms similar to a low blood sugar (without any sugar issues), constantly tired off and on all day, waking multiple times a night to use the restroom or to numbness and tingling in my limbs or lips, having heart palpitations, and several other very bizarre things! I am a healthy, 32 year old female, within 15 pounds of a healthy weight for my age/height, who works out several times a week, and is in otherwise peak condition.
This book was the last stop after multiple doctors and medications (both natural and prescribed) before giving in and trying surgery. Which, by the way, has a recurrence high enough to make me think it is a horrible idea.
Within 24 hours of cutting out wheat I had stopped vomiting. I felt more energetic (slightly), and noticed a difference. Within 3 days I cut my dose of meds in half, and within 1 week I was totally off my medication with no ill effects.
I am currently about 1 1/2 months out from starting this journey and I feel totally different! I now have a reaction if I even ingest a tiny amount of wheat, and all the symptoms I had and many I didn't even realize were symptoms (like the hair shedding) are gone. Totally gone!
Now, this book...i got it first because it seemed like if I was going to stick with something, then a 30 minute meal book would be the simplest verses the original Wheat Belly cookbook. I have been feeding my family dinners out of this book for the last month, and every single one has been a hit. I have picky eaters and even they love what I'm cooking!!!
This book is the best cookbook with some of the best recipes I've ever tried, even over wheat-containing ones.
If you are wanting something to make this journey easier, tastier, and enjoyable...this is the best choice!

A definite buy.

Finally! A lucid explanation of why Zhu Xi seemed to think that he needed to bring the cosmology of Zhou Dunyi (with its somewhat jumbled and obscure talk of yin-yang, and the five phases, along with its disconnected metaphysics) into the mix of Song Confucianism. Although I wish that some of Joseph Adler's English translations had been as innovative as his translation of wu-ji er tai-ji as' nonpolarity and yet supreme polarity' (for example, his use of the mechanistic 'will' instead of say, 'intention,' for zhi), and that he had not relied so heavily on the academy's traditional interpretations, this book is overall a terrific achievement.

Great makeup artist tool!

These face charts are great to have as a makeup artist to repeat looks and remember looks I did on a trial that I need to replicate sometimes as long as 2 months later on a bride. I just wish the binding was different because it's hard to open and lay flat.

This very brief quiz is basically an ad for his online poker coaching but it does have some value. Might be worth the price.

Quick, Easy, Concise, Informative for Beginner/Intermediate Player

Quick easy read. I consider myself an intermediate player. I would recommend this to a beginner/intermediate player but not to a complete novice. I have read books by Negranu, Brunson, and Harrington. His strategy differs somewhat but I did learn a few things, specifically how to get just a little more value out of specific hands based on which type of player you're facing and the preflop action. I think all the hands were heads up vs one opponent once you got to the flop and most involve 3x pre flop raises. I didn't pay for this because I used kindle unlimited. I would probably not pay more than $3 for this book.

Great quick read to brush up on the type of hands that come up frequently when playing poker tournaments and the optimal ways to handle them. This one, like all of Jonathon's books are easy to read and understand for all players - even if you are extremely new to poker - but contain valuable information and insight to how one of the top tournament players around handles situations that you will find yourself in every time you play, no matter what stakes you are playing at.

Decent content, overshadowed by poor editing

This is a decent summary and case reference for law as it relates to transnational and multi-jurisdictional internet-based business disputes, copyright law in the internet age, and other related topics. The editing of this book is pretty terrible. There are multiple instances of incomplete sentences, sentences that are repeated in the same paragraph, and errors in case references. It apears that, instead of being a final version, this is more of a third draft, and is waiting for an editor. I'm not planning to return the book, but I'll think twice before I buy another West Nutshell Series book.

The book references a lot of relevant cases, but does not explain them very well and you have to do a lot of extra research to understand some of the chapters. In the Kindle version there are repeats of entire sentences and paragraphs throughout each chapter, making it difficult to read.
