About the Author
Dennis Sherman is Professor of History at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York. He received his B.A. (1962) and J.D. (1965) degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. (1970) from the University of Michigan . . He was Visiting Professor at the University of Paris (1978-79; 1985). He has received the Ford Foundation Prize Fellowship, the Council for Research on Economic History fellowship, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities. His publications include A Short History of Western Civilization, 8th edition (co-author); Western Civilization: Sources, Images, and Interpretations, 5th edition; World Civilizations: Sources, Images, and Interpretations, 2nd Edition (co-author); a series of introductions in the Garland Library of War and Peace; several articles and reviews on nineteenth-century French economic and social history in American and European journals, and short stories on literary reviews.

Joyce Salisbury is Professor Emerita of History at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she taught history of undergraduates for more than twenty years. She received a Ph.D in medieval history from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She is a respected historian who has published many articles and has written or edited more than ten books, including the critically acclaimed Perpetua's Passion: Death and Memory of a Young Roman Woman, The Blood of Martyrs: Unintended Consequences of Ancient Violence, The Encyclopedia of Women in the Ancient World, and the Greenwood Encyclopedia of Daily Life, which won many awards for its creative organization and timely presentation of the material. In 2010, Salisbury published a second edition of her classic work on the history of attitudes towards animals: The Beast Within: Humans and Animals in the Middle Ages. Salisbury is an award-winning teacher, who was named "Professor of the Year for Wisconsin in 1991" by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), a prestigious national organization. Since retiring from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Salisbury has taught twice on Semester at Sea, a program sponsored by the University of Virginia that teaches students as they circumnavigate the world. Salisbury brought a global perspective to the history of Western Civilization while teaching abroad, and the fourth edition of The West in the World has benefitted from her interaction with students as they make sense of our twenty-first century global civilization.

As text books go, this is a pretty good one! It's well written and interesting. There is a lot of information between these covers, however most if it is more of an over view of what was going on at a certain time in history. If you were looking for something with more detail and a bit more info on the people who were important during that time, you won't find it here. However, if the authors did go into detail this would be a ridiculously large book to have to tote around.

The only thing hotter than a July summer is a July summer with Zane!

OK, here's a joke: what's the difference between a July day in Aiken, SC, hell, a five-alarm fire, and a Zane anthology? The answer: not one damn thang! Zane brings us twenty-five (twenty-six including hers) short stories of sweaty, sticky, undulating, uninhibited sex. The eroticism of their written words is surpassed only by the images they inspire. These short stories are nothing of the sort because you'll need to factor in day-dreaming time and... stress releasing time. (Oh hush, you freaks know what I mean.)

Here are some of my favorites:

'Doing Bris' by R.W. Shannon - great opening (no jokes here please) to this collection and this short story had nothing to do with the dude being named Jason.

'Prime Piece of Property' by Nadia - selling houses should always be this fun.

'After Dark' by Niyah Moore - this was a good short story, but it didn't make my list because of the story. It made my list because of the last paragraph and one sentence. I NEVER saw that coming, but when I went back and reread the story I saw the subtle clues and hints. I like how writers can do that. They cause you to miss something on the first pass but on the second or third read you're like "oh... damn..." Good one Niyah.

'So Much for Rules' by W. Biddle Street - The girl in this one had me cracking up!! I enjoy when an author can blend sex and humor.

'Hard Times' by Lynn Lake - my absolute FAVORITE story in this collection. Let me say that again, my. absolute. favorite. story. in. this. collection. Wanton, lusty, naughty, pick one. You could literally feel the need and experience the shiver of release from these two. Somebody find Lynn Lake for me and buy her (?) a beer.

'Dirty' by Carla S. Pennington - another funny sexy one. Especially the comment about the Magnum condom.

'Shadow Dancer' by Landon Dixon - all I can say about this one is "be careful what you wish for".

'Intimate Strangers' by Michelle Janine Robinson - if the mile-high club was an actual club, these two would be the founding members.

'Coosawhatchie' by Zane - As usual Zane closes out her collection of literary hedonism with one of her own. I was happy to see that she represented my home state of South Carolina, but damned if I knew where Coosawhatchie is. And yes, it is a town because Goole Maps said so. The story; country girl meets city orgasm. I will always remember my first experience with a Zane book. It was 'Nervous', and I was browsing the table, saw the cover, picked it up, read a few chapters, and burst out laughing right there in the bookstore. I'm glad to see that magic is still there.

We always hear about the hot summer movie but never about the hot summer book.

Consider that oversight corrected.

I finished this book in no time at all and loved every minute of it! Hot and steamy is all I got to say, I will be reading a lot more from this author in the future. I didn't realize this was part of a series at first but it definitely stands alone also.

I give this book a rating of 5 stars and highly recommend to all the ladies out there!!

Nice photos, little useful information

This is a fluffy little guide to Siem Reap. The design and photos are nice, and it is compact enough to bring with -- if it were worthwhile.
It's posed as an insider's guide to the high-end near the magnificent Angkor complexes, but it lacks some useful tips, like hiring a guide (and that your guide and tuk-tuk driver will be getting kickbacks from the shops and restaurants you are dropped off at).

We went on a tour but I always buy books to help us with out travels anyways. This book is really great for first time visitors. It gives details on places that are usually visited and important traveler information. I read it on the flight - but too bad I left it in the pocket in front of me in the plane :( Good size for carrying around too.

Although i have been to Angkor before i found the book to be much more informative and detailed than i had expected.
It provided us with much more information that i had any knowledge of and i think this is one of those books that anyone who is even thinking of going to Cambodia really should read as it is so much more informative than others i had read.

I just got a copy of Suzie Cooney's new book, "How to Increase Your Standup Paddling Performance, Beginner to Elite". Suzie is the real deal, she runs a personal training business on Maui and trains all kinds of people, from those that are just trying to get more fit to hard core, elite paddle athletes. In her spare time, you'll probably find her paddling Maliko, surfing and doing the occasional little paddle, like crossing the Pailolo Channel over to Molokai or paddling Molokai to Oahu. When she's not doing those kinds of adventures, she's giving back in a wide variety of ways. Her beginner fun paddle and casual 'race' during the Olukai weekend are just a couple of examples. Anyway, if you are interested in fitness and, specifically, how to up your game on the standup board, you couldn't ask for a better authority than Suzie to write a book like this.

This is the kind of book you want to keep around for a reference. I would call it a SUP foundation-training bible. So much is covered in this book, it is extremely comprehensive while staying truly substantive. If you are into Standup and want to learn more or you are a seasoned competitor, this is one of those must-have books you'll want in your library. Anyone that wants a total training reference for the sport of stand up paddling should check it out.

Without a doubt, this is THE BEST comprehensive SUP training guide available for anyone interested in improving paddling performance. Packed with valuable information, inspiration, and beautiful color photos, this beautifully designed book provides simple and fun ways for any level of paddler to train on and off the water. Like having a world class coach by your side, Suzie inspires the reader with practical tips and expertise based upon years of training novice paddlers and professionals. The book is sprinkled with personal experience and stories straight from the beaches of Maui, that inspire and educate the reader. After years of paddling, I was especially impressed with Chapter 7, “The Mental Part.” Suzie provides concrete tools and techniques to thrive in the very specific mental aspects of paddling and conquering the most formidable ocean challenges.

This book is long overdue! This is the first publication I've seen that brings together all of the key elements of standup paddle board racing, training, nutrition and gear overview in one place. What makes this book truly stand out is that is written in a way that will appeal to both the beginning paddle boarder who wants to try SUP racing as well as the experienced one. Suzie's web site has always had great info on taking your paddling to the next level, but to have it all in one place is awesome. While the information is extremely useful, the presentation and the way the book is organized and laid out makes it extremely accessible and user-friendly. This is destined to be the SUP training bible.
